I think they've always wanted to do OC Predators with crazy designs. That Viper Predator was made up by them, and so was the Heavy Combat Armor Borg/Lost Predator based on the Lost Predator which was one of the Lost Tribe Preds from P2.
Then there was this badass they showed off at Toyfair this year, who is apparently another unique design, not based on any existing character.
