In post-Filmation comics, Blade's distinguishing background is that he's an extraterrestrial/extra-Eternian human. In the (very lame) mini-comic "The Cosmic Key", an Evil Cloud teleports him and Saurod to Skeletor (Gwildor has immigrated from Thenuria to an Eternian lake). The newspaper comic, oddly enough, doesn't contradict this, but picks up with Blade stalking Gwildor to the house on land he's now renting as part of Evil-Lyn's plot to steal a MacGuffin that disrupts magic portals, to be detonated right after she, Blade, Saurod and Beast Man take such a portal to Blade's homeworld of Merrian.
(This is the "Evil-Lyn disguised as a love interest for Gwildor" plot we've mentioned.)
Our Heroes take Eternia's first starship to Merrian, and what we see of it is Indonesian or Polynesian-themed.
