Just don't take for granted that it's that specific additive that's screwing you over, ripping off the alcohol group and slapping on an acetate one instead will have some effect on the properties. Most makers aren't gonna tell you what exactly is in the hydrocarbon soup they sell you either. You'll just have to try shit and see what works.
