- Transformers Universe. These profiles were printed in Marvel comics, and were the expanded bios that were abbreviated for the back of the toy packaging. Illustrations are (limited due to the comic book coloring of the era) model sheets. Does not cover every character.
- Dreamwave "More Than Meets the Eye" guides. Same premise, but a few are written "in universe" so you have characters comment on each other in some cases (example: Cyclonus singing the praises of how invincible and great Galvatron is). Every G1 character gets a bio, even those who didn't have bios back then like Micromasters or Abominus. Ignores Japanese characters. There are the occasional adjustment to tweak things to fit Dreamwave's then-new continuity. Art is the Dreamwave house style, so ranges from "ok" to "pfttahahaha".
Tangentially related:
- Transformers: The Ark (both volumes). Books of the G1 characters, in black and white line art. Book 1 is the American G1 show, while book 2 is all the Japanese material.
