The "original character designer" for the game is nobody, the game is composed entirely of characters from other games, the only new sprites being those two, Cable, SonSon and Hayato. Bengus did all the character art and also did all the character art for MvC1. MvC1 was the same ratio of new sprites to old ones and was literally made because they didn't expect XMvSF to be such a huge hit and had stuff from MSH to use to make a good roster.
