>>6303559>Unfortunately, I think Japanese films are kind of starting to take more influence from these big US hitsThis is a big bummer to me too because one of the main things I love about Japanese films based on comics is that they lean into the inherent goofiness of their source material and embrace it. I mean, granted this is a particularly goofy example, but the Yattaman movie here was spectacularly visually accurate to the manga, with only a few visual changes here and there. You just know if this had been remade in the US it would have featured jet black leather jumpsuits with metal gauntlets or some "cool" serious shit. Many Japanese filmmakers (and by extension, their audience) are willing to understand that not everything has to be translated into gritty realism for people to accept it.
