If you are storing for more than a year, you need to consider that the plastic should 'breath' or it develops this stickiness (that will wipe off if we're not talking a decade+ of storage).
I just moved, I was packing about 3-5 months before my move, and it took me a few months to unpack the collectibles (and I still have other unpacking to do). I wrapped all the lose figures in bubble wrap or tissue paper and had absolutely no problems. I even have some porcelain and PVC non-articulating figurines that were loose and transported those the same way.
Of course, I only moved within the County, about 15-20 miles in total. The last time I moved in state and cross country, I didn't really have articulating collectibles.
Good luck.
