The circled bit in the cropped pic here is the tell, I can't find any images of sappers with that. That tells me if I find one, that will tell us what he is. If you can take a picture of his back, some of his other gear might yield a clue. Outside of uniform colour and detail variations, basically every napoleonic sapper looks like that: bearded guy, apron, carrying an axe, bearskin hat.
