He picks a certain costume and try to stay consistent as much as possible but for certain details he invent his own design(or miss them like white squares on hands), and that includes the faces. Cap was Now! but he added the All Might factor to the body structure. He's okay for recreating a specific art like with My Hero AY with a singular source but isn't doing that with comics like MAFEX.
This is pretty unusual for action figures, having a sculptor responsible for coming up with a face, without being a totally original reimagination. Almost like Kotobukiya's Bishoujo statue line but that has a separate illustrator.
I think this process might be too time consuming (or might not be, he could be very fast) and if people really hate his face designs they might consider getting a illustrator that match his style draw a face and he can sculpt from that. Last time he had a different face sculptor it didn't work well.
I think that's easier than to get license/approval to a specific comic art or artist. You get those nuts with overlapping images trying to make some kind of point.
