If the brick building aspect is a must have, then yes, basically all non lego substitutes are war oriented. Still, Mega construx is pretty awesome. The mini actionfigures have 14+ easily interchangeable body parts that makes character creation diverse and expansive. With a bit of work, they can take on a tabletop miniature level of detail while still keeping that blocky aesthetic to bridge the gap between non lego toys and block toys.
I dont think most of the sets will wow a long time lego builder like you but the airplanes they make are some of the best brick sets of any brand ever. Beautiful marbled plastic, packed with small details and functions and perfectly captured aerodynamic shapes.
