With designs that have been drawn by different artists, be they comic characters or mecha, it's obvious- one can like multiple versions of a character's design. even when an objectively better, newer version comes out, it may have a different design and thus both have their place in my collection
If anything it's weird autism or OCD to not be able to buy multiples because only one can represent the character in your collection.
