This is smart engineering, as it allows the peg to be mounted firmly on the surface, rather than what most lines do (only half the peg is attached to either side, which makes for a weak and more easily broken connection). This same smart engineering also makes enough room for a female port.
So, the larger axis joints (up top, on the left and right) come with one male end and one female. If you insert a switch pin (bottom middle), it essentially just turns into a Revolver joint.
