Shortstack-anon here, been away from Blender for a while due to combination of sickness and reordering my flat.
Anyway, you may remember this insanely impractical hip design. Well having been looking at the available Hobby Base joints I've had an idea- rather than the absurd "sandwich" around a full joint, instead making the hip/buttcheek module a single piece which accepts one of the balljoint balls that HB makes. As the sprues are 3mm and work as rods (very good idea, whoever at HB came up with that deserves a raise) it should be possible to get the exact same range of motion with less seams, less reliance on perfect print tolerances and fewer parts. Now I just need to work out how to put the hip module "back together" without having to model it from scratch again.
I'm also considering cloning the Shizue Minase hip assembly (which works like a Figma's inverse-T pelvis armature but "split in two") but as that relies on an S-shaped plastic armature which would be hard to make from plastic rod and I don't trust even sturdy resin to be up to the task of, I'll have to think about that.
