Size-shifting was an unfortunate but interesting consequence of the Micron line being part of the deal. I view it as a non-outlier outlier power that used to be much more rare, but due to the attrition of the war almost half of all Transformers can change size somewhat (Optimus Prime being an obvious and interesting exception, and Broadside as an extreme example).
But there is simply no sane reason for teams that are vastly different in size to end up as equally big, Look at this shit.
