For those interested, if you start a part with a black or brown primer you can dry brush light passes of different shades of brown over the part preferably in one direction, then gently sand the part to create the appearance of wood. Different colors can make a part look like different types of wood. If you do a thin layer of red and dark brown you can imitate red wood for instance. Be carefully not to sand all the way down to your primer.
