>>9025740Here's a quote from a study conducted last year on actual trans people (not sure why you posted a stat about "homosexuals?") In a completely unsurprising survey of over 40,000 people, it was found that social support systems for trans people drastically reduced the suicide rate. In addition to that though, of course suicide rates were going to be higher for trans people. It can be traumatic in itself to be trans, with shit like not understanding why you feel so uncomfortable in your own body, feeling like you will never be able to be who you want to be, or feeling like if you choose to your family and friends will all disown you. And those are all just thoughts, they're separate factors from actual abuse they may receive from peers or strangers. If you consider that amount of stress on a person, it's not at all surprising to see why some might consider suicide. It's an easy way out, and if you can't live being your true self, why live at all, right?
This is why I never understood why some people use that "41%" thing as some sort of "gotcha." It's like those infomercials where the woman hammers a hole in her wall and looks surprised, what did you think was gonna happen? Ostracize, bully, and kill a group of people, and even the ones who have never personally experienced it are going to live in a cage of fear. I'm kinda guessing you're not gonna engage with this post in a reasonable way, nor will most others here. But that's cool, I've said my piece, and now I'm gonna bounce. Later.
