The MS-05B Zaku I Atmospheric Operations Test Unit was a short-lived experimental unit Zeon was developing that was quickly scrapped when it was decided the Zaku I was not adequate as a mainline unit. It was equipped with an winged pack and heavy thrusters mounted to the back of the legs. This makes it capable of extended atmospheric flight and advanced aerial maneuvering. The pack is mounted with a pair of Zaku machineguns as well as rockets or micro-missile pods. It is also capable of using any armament the standard Zaku I can use, though testing has found that Bazookas cannot be utilized midair without risk of throwing the unit off balance and possibly causing it to crash. The Atmospheric Zaku I was also equipped with an experimental short-range anti-air flak shotgun which was also scrapped.
