Stick with SAL, sometimes it will fly under the radar as just a box of stuff. EMS brings it through more channels who are likely to check for contents and costs. Sometimes I get hit with charges (NI) and sometimes I don't. You've just got to run the gambit. Buying from within the EU will often see you paying prices greater than the total of a HLJ order plus shipping and customs.
Simple using Hobby Frontline vs HLJ.
Hobby Frontline - HGBD:R Mobile Doll May
€24.70 + €10 shipping. (For me, that's £29.54)
HLJ - HGBD:R Mobile Doll May
€16.83 + €8.22 shipping. (For me, that's 21.96)
If all goes well, there's no customs charge. If I hit with charges, it won't be much for that single item. But I tend to ship 4-5 things all at once and the highest my customs charge has been is £17. Seeing as how (for example) there's an £8 difference on something as small as a mobile doll and a difference of £6 on things like a basic Leo, you're best bet for buying in the EU is to just go with an overseas store of your choosing, buy in bulk for maximum savings and hope you get through customs.
It's a shitty deal, but it is what it is.
