That's how Takara can get away with selling them since the characters themselves were originally based on Toys Hasbro licensed from Bandai and sold in America where Bandai didn't. If Takara owned Transformers and sold these figures, they'd get sued out the ass by Bandai for copyright infringement. It's a flaky and confusing situation, but point is Transformers is a Hasbro property that they work jointly with Takara to make.
