Again, you're ignoring the very fact that there's thousands of mainstream media outlets reporting toy news to more than just nerds. That's the entire point of Toy Fair. This is how it's been going for decades.

They want flashy shit and that's why Toy Fair gets reported. Even then, not every EVENT gets nation wide news coverage, so the New York Toy Fair only gets reported because it's the largest one in the US, despite being one of many Toy Fairs (and licensing fairs). Same shit with SDCC, while the news ignores 99% of other comic cons. Same shit with E3, where events like PAX and Blizzcon gets next to zero nationwide coverage.
