You're talking about China, where ANYTHING western was the superior choice in the 80s, 90s and into the 00s.
The jobs they had back then was more than fair and better than almost every single alternative, hence those jobs still existing. In your privileged coddled western eyes, of course that seems like shit, but its led to improves in every single way of life in China. IT created fairness and improved standards of living.
To you, living without 24/7 internet and a super computer in your pocket is probably hell and you probably never concieved how normal it was like living pre-1990s internet.
