At best it's just a generic off brand mermaid film that will be forgotten within 20 years. They should have cast a legit ginger, but if the urge to race swap her was such a big deal for nu-Disney, they should have made her Latina as Hispanics are associated with tropical settings way more then black people are, and that's a fact. It just makes sense, but they didn't care about anything except making her black. They originally considered Zendaya (another black chick) for the part, so you just know their mind was already made up that they wanted a black girl before they even started the casting of the film. The part didn't go to the best person who could portray Ariel, it went to that black freak faced chick because Beyonce only agreed to do the live action Lion King if they hired her young protege.
