I do highly recommend seamwelding. Get some of the Tamiya thick cement and just glop it on. Some alligator clips, rubberbands, etc to help maintain force can help too. Then a set of cheap metal files to get rid of the weld lines. The thin cement is also handy to drip into small spots where it didn't fully weld or are hard to get with thick cement.
Get some super tiny detail brushes as well and you can enjoy making hte SD bits pop. I'm a fan of Testors enamels for hand detailing since the pigment quality is high for good coverage in one coat, and if you did acrylic base layers and let them set you can clean up minor imperfections with mineral spirits for the detailing.
