It was hard to get kids excited without a cartoon or movie tie-in, and a lot of stores over-ordered wave 1 (which, let's be honest, was okay but nowhere near as good as the designs got later in the line). It's not surprising that Hasbro canceled it, even later in the line when shit was getting really cool they still weren't selling that well.
It's a real shame though, cause they were some of the coolest and most creative toys ever put out under the Hasbro banner. I have assembled quite a large collection off eBay (which cost a LOT) and I love them to death.
The same guys who worked on it have produced the Modibot line recently, which actually is Xevoz-compatible! So if you're hungry for new parts or accessories, there's always that....sadly, Modibot is thematically nowhere near as interesting as Xevoz though.
