You can buy any object with the hopes of it's value increasing, that's called an investment, and while not how I make my money it works for some folks. Scalping is where I should be able to buy it for it's regular price right now and can't because it's been bought out and immediately resold at a higher rate by a third party. It's worth noting that both are different than retail where you buy large amounts from the manufacturer for a discount and then sell them at the usual price individually.
