Or they could explore other Ghibli titles, and Mononoke Hime comes to mind. Two characters both with unique animals, both quite popular. And a large white dog would sell numbers on its own. Problem would be the anime faces and these will definitely ignore the Jizai Okimono aesthetics they loosely follow.
