>>8343232>the impression I have is that a lot of people see other kits as the Mega Bloks brand.Somewhat ironic, as Mega Bloks (now known as Mega Construx) is arguably doing way cooler and more ambitious shit than Lego, who is content to coast on their licensed IPs and never innovate again.
But I digress. The issue is that most people don't even know there IS a world outside of Gundam. Plamo is not a widespread thing anymore outside of Asia. Most people either have the impression of boomer-tier tank-and-plane modeling, or maybe some dusty old memories from their youth of Gundam Wing kits. Many are unaware that Gundam is still even a thing, much less that there are other companies making other types of snapfit model kits. And even within the percentage that are aware, there are even fewer who are willing to step outside the safe circle of Bandai's embrace. Like I said, Bandai is the top of the pile, and for good reason too. They have the most technologically advanced kits, with the tightest engineering and tolerances and most user-friendly entry points. Everything outside of that is big and scary to new modelers. "What? I need to sand and glue and paint? This doesn't come with decals? The parts don't fit right and I need to fix them myself?" Many will just throw their hands up and quit at that point.
