I can see shapes I have and re-purpose them through painting them differently, gluing them to different parts and doing other such mods, and I can try to recreate designs from other things using primitive shapes, but I have a hard time adding details to an existing design.
How does one practice the art of adding details like this, not in terms of skill but in terms of design?
