By being half sized, you increase the playability of a toy. You can easily hold the old X Wing and TIE Fighter in each hand and have a dog fight with them only 1 foot apart.
Once you start needing two hands to hold something? That's just too large to play with with your hands. That works fine for playsets and some vehicles, which you can push on the ground, but not planes. It's not as fun when your toy becomes a struggle to hold.
This is why i never bought any of the BBI or 21st Century helicopters. I kick myself for not realizing that they'd cost $500 in the future, but at the time, i had a hundred chances to buy them when they were only $20-65. Well, i did buy BBi's Little Bird, because as the name states: it's little.
I also bought bbi's full 1:18 scale Abrams, which i think is the max size a vehicle should be. I even bought another Abrams, because it was $25.
The AT AT is something I'd love, but i have my two hand rule.
I don't see the point in owning 1:12 vehicles because they're all two hand sized. With the space i can give to a 1:12 vehicle, i can instead use that to buy 2 more actual 1:18 scale Bradleys or 4 half sized 1:18 GI Joe vehicles.
