My Autorooper showed up today. Ordered it before the new scans, so it's all been good timing. This thing is no joke, it's incredible. The box and accessories feel really quality and the whole thing has an amazing presentation. It's totally missed in the reactions to it that it's not just an otaku market approach in terms of it being pervy, but that whole high end Japanese otaku collectible feel in general. The robot itself largely feels like a prototype for what became Masterpiece sportscars like Sideswipe, but where Sideswipe is super solid and chunky, it's lost all the crazy detail work.
It doesn't feel nearly as dated as I thought it would. Pretty much only the feet seem like they should collapse a lot more than they do, and I'm terrified of the amount of thin clear plastic it has on the roof. As the only currently affordable figure in the line, you could do a lot worse. I'll probably keep looking into Alternator style stuff in general.
And boy do you know this line isn't getting reprinted any time soon.
