>>11378418From what I've found, 'Rage in Heaven' served as an "Assembly Ship" for the 491st Bombardment Group, of the 852nd Bombardment Squadron. These planes were given unique, very noticeable paint jobs because their function was to be the lead ship that bomber group formations would set up around during take-off. These planes would then lead the group to the rendezvous point where all the participating bomber flights would meet for an attack. However, Assembly Ships simply flew away after the bomber force was formed up, as their sole purpose was to be a big metal tour guide/judas goat leading a group of easily lost school children (or, given the average age of combatants...college dropouts). As such, normally they were stripped of extra armor and all armaments, instead being equipped with flares and special lights to make them as much of a flying, flashing lights billboard as possible. And they definitely had some WILD schemes, far more in-your-face than Dr. Suess Zebra stripes as the image I've attached (taken from Wikipedia) shows.
'Rage In Heaven' specifically was a normal B-24J when it first entered service, originally only having green stripes, but when it was converted into an Assembly Ship it gained the yellow stripes. I will note that the model shouldn't actually have the guns on the turrets, since as mentioned above Assembly Ships had all armament stripped, but due to this being a model of a standard B-24J originally produced in 1975 it didn't come with unarmed clear domes, and to be quite frank I think it just looks better with a proper armament. Not like anybody who is going to see this in person is going to know it's not supposed to have its guns anyway.
