Handle the Bionicle theme the same way they handle the Star Wars theme. Lego jumps all over the place within the Star Wars timeline/story to make new sets each year.
They could have done the same for Bionicle, no need to reboot the story. They can release things mentioned in the story: Rahi, toa, matoran, etc that never got a set.
The original star wars trilogy and prequels ended a long time ago, and Lego still plucks random things from these movies to make new sets from.
