Here's some interesting facts about automation. Manufacturing of goods is actually worse today thanks to automation. Since machines are much more simplistic than humans, new ways of production needed to be created for the machine to do it. This leads to shittier refridgerators, tvs, clothes, tires, furniture, heavy machinery (cars, trucks, planes, etc) and thousands of other automation-supported products.
This is why clothes, towels, bedding, etc from before ~2005 was more durable and are still surviving to this day. Stuff you bought just 1 years ago is in worse shape than vintage clothes from the 70s.
You've undoubtedly noticed this with electronics too, not just consoles or TVs, but air conditioners, furnaces, washing machines, and other shit that used to last life times.
