If you only have $25 in your pocket and the item is $24.99 plus tax you can wake out of the store without it or you can ask someone if they can do a discount and leave with the item. Not to imply that I've ever damaged the box myself to than later ask for a discount for only a Mr Bungles would do something like that.
Plus on a side note even if I did have the money it would piss me off to pay a prime price on a collectors item while the box was all fucked up. Yes the box is part of the product. Even if I later chose to open it I still want the box to be in good shape.
Why should I pay full price for an item that looks like it's been stomped on by a child with autism and jizzed on by an edgy teen.
