As I understood, the designers didn't read trough all the old books, likely not even saw all the sets but were shown the first 3 movies.
Likely read that snippet from somewhere at Eurobricks from Aanchir, or some interview when I used to follow G2 like a leech. Can't really bother to go and search for confirmation.
