Basically I took one of those cheap sponge paintbrushes you can get in places like home depot, lowes, etc. Took off some pieces of it, dipped it into maskol, then dabbed it onto a paper towel to remove most of it. Then I placed it in places I thought it would receive chipping using a pair of tweezers to hold the sponge as I dabbed it along panel lines, seams where wear / tear would occur.
By the way, that kit looks like Tamiya's J1N Gekko. Funny that you're working on that, I was literally working on that exact kit about a month ago until I misplaced one of the interior parts (I think the rear radio or something) and it really put me off from completing the kit because I would have to get a replacement from Tamiya somwhow...
