Figuarts generally kind of scales well-ish with AY, but on the other hand AY itself is weird because it mainly does superhero characters who have pretty exaggerated and unrealistic/godlike proportions themselves (and yamaguchi doesn't shy away from it) so they might look odd next to someone like a figuarts Star Wars character regardless
I obviously have no idea about what kind of collector your friend is, but personally I'd suggest buying something small and stupid rather than buying a full blown high quality figure. At least I'm autistic enough about my figures and my way of displaying them that I wouldn't necessarily even want someone else to try to contribute to it. The one thing that I've gotten as a gift that I'm technically displaying is pic related
