FNAF was his only successful biulding block sets, but he licensed other popular series like Game of Thrones, Rick and Morty, Steven Universe, Walking Dead, South Park, and some other video game shits. None of these other series took off and one of them was never even released.
So once the FNAF fad ended, he literally had nothing else to carry his lego lines. Retailers didn't even order the last wave from his FNAF line, because it no longer sold like it used to (it was McFarlane Toy's most successful toyline too).
No company would purposely throw away an idea that worked. McFarlane just had nothing more to sell to retailers.
So why have no other companies actually jumped on making legos like McFarlane did? Seeing how many lines bombed, it probably kept most companies from imitating his ideas.
The only reason that McFarlane Toys thought the other lines didn't sell is because people didn't realize that they were building block toys.
