And as long as it doesn’t cost more to manufacture, I’m sure designers were encouraged to max out these kinds of little canon details. It’s a value-added money-maker. I’m thinking we won’t really see that much ‘playability’ built into the new packaging either despite a stated commitment by Mattel making more sustainable ‘playable’ packaging, which would be so nice. It cuts into the bottom line of the play sets marketing too much. Only cute display packaging allowed for collector lines.
One thing I’ve never understood about the MIB collecting, the packaging isn’t at all archival, even on the high end dolls. Why haven’t they marketed any ‘special’ display casing designed to protect/preserve the dolls? It would both lure people to unbox, and sell another line item in multiples. A series of wall-mounted coffin-shaped shadow box cases for MH. Or a fancy shelf.
