They do wonders for Lego minifigs because with their stubby legs and square feet they can pull off legit walking, running and climbing poses (and even keep the balance!), but I have trouble thinking of situations where separate legs would be a great advantage for a Playmobil figure. Even for kicking, Playmobil just encourages doing like this. Likewise for walking you just grab the figure and go tipitap tap tap in the direction you want to go. At the end of the day the linked legs just feel right for Playmobil, even convenient.
They do have swivel wrists.
