In fact, I have paranoia associated with a similar situation. I moved to another country in Europe and left all my lego at my parents' house. It is not possible to move everything and the place where I live is smaller than where I lived before.
And I'm starting to buy Lego again after 4 years of living without Lego.
And... I'm afraid that I'll start having a bunch of plastic boxes filled with bricks again, that I'll have a bunch of Lego here and there.
What if I have to move again.
And Lego is expensive now. And there is always FOMO. And if you missed a set - back luck - pay the bigger price later + shipping costs.
I have just one big set for now. And trying to stick to minifigures. If i see a set i like - i'd rather buy minifigs off bricklink or animals (for example picrelated Jurassic World set - i just bought both dinosaurs off bricklink and didnt bother with the rest of the set) - at least those can be stored better because they are small.
i'm trying to waste as little space as it possible and there is always a thought at the back of my mind that i should think about how easy it will be to move my collection in the future.
