I think the point you’re missing when comparing him to Armada Unicron, is that that toy only really had one hemisphere of a planet mode, and still ended up with a quarter of it hanging off as octet panels off of his back, whereas this figure actually has a full spherical planet mode and thus nearly twice the panel area to deal with.
