Especially since Piccolo just continues to be drawn taller as time went on and the figure seemed more focused to represent the saiyan arc, although it has the v-cut.
Ideally we would have just gotten several Piccolo's (and other main chars because the style absolutely changed over the years). The 'smaller' one we got with the full on shirt and a taller one with the v-cut to represent later parts of the series. It is what it is.
