The increased prices are almost assuredly due in part to the fact that, with the boom in nerd culture, collectibles have become 'cool' and have gotten a lot more mainstream over the past ten years. And just like anything else that hits the mainstream, companies realize that people are dumb enough to shell out tons of money no matter what they put out, so over time they slowly start cutting corners and raising prices. I mean, just look at the disaster that was the 4-inch Nel Roll Caskett.
It's another tragic case of quantity over quality. Profit at any cost, right?
