Why is Hasbro abandoning the best neck joint they've ever had? Sure, this joint can look funny at certain angles/poses, but it can also generally be tweaked to get around that. It has a fantastic range of motion, especially when it comes to looking up/down. This is the one thing I felt Hasbro always did better than most Japanese companies--the head/neck are very expressive, so you can sell a lot of poses with great neck poseability alone. Just look at Yamaguchi, he gets so much mileage out of his neck poseability.
The new double balljoints have absolute dogshit range in comparison. They can't do nearly as much, and looking straight up/down is now nigh-impossible for most figures. Yeah, I guess they look more cohesive from most angles, but was it worth it? They tanked their biggest advantage IMO.
