I see the idea that they didn't really fit in with LEGO posted around a lot but when I was a kid, they seemed very normal and cool to me.
Just like after System you had Technic for older kids, so too you had the Technic figure as an evolution of the minifigure - bigger, more articulated.
I find it odd that LEGO hit it big with buildable actionfigured (Bionicle) in the early 2000s but somehow Technic figures which were basically action figures died off in 2001.
What went wrong?
