Robots in Disguise being brought over was the first time I really experience hype for Transformers; I was a Beast Wars fan and I was keeping an eye on the then-new ebay and internet websites and came across Gigatron and fire convoy. Just their paint alone is gorgeous. Big Convoy is the closest thing to a similar figure, I consider them to be effectively "sibling designs"; they where designed by the same guy
Aesthetically its a very purely Japanese look. Between Car Robots and Beast wars Neo, there's a clear attempt to distance themselves from older aesthetics, much in the same way a lot of other Japanese mecha designs where going through a change.Over here the pendulum swung back hard after beast Machines so the G1 look was in, which killed that momentum, as Takara was following Hasbro's lead.
Maybe some 3rd party stuff would be similar, but I don't find the aesthetics as slick. Thunder Manus looks really fun.
