At the plinking level I'd mostly just avoid them because I don't like the aesthetic compared to the old Elites. Most of the complaints are about cost-cutting measures that aren't going to affect you most likely. Except the Warden, that thing's a huge piece of shit.
But even if you do want to avoid them, it isn't like it's hard to thrift Elites/Zombie Strike/etc. at a goodwill or on ebay or even still new at Amazon in some instances.
Honestly you might be suited to check out the Zuru X-Shot line. The selection's more limited but they know how to make a good pistol and tend to be cheaper/come in 2-packs anyway. pic related would be $20 on Amazon for example.
