I used Citadel nuln oil.
I like it because it stays on well without requiring multiple coats and a finish on top, it doesn't rub off unless you really scratch at it, normal posing has had no effect on it.
It was purely trial and error, I slapped it on with a small brush, spread it around, and used kitchen roll to wipe away the excess if I thought there was too much.
