It's not hard to get into SDCC and a lot of us go regardless of exclusives. As already stated, going the first few days ensures you get what you want.
I actually regret wasting preview night last year waiting in most of the lines, since almost nothing sold out until Saturday and Sunday. Those days are when they start allowing anyone buy an exclusive without waiting.
I really do mean it when I say it's easier to get SDCC exclusives than popular mass market toys.
